I am using mac OSX 10.9. This problem has been present for a long time.

The way to reproduce this problem is:

1. disconnect all headphones

2. open a youtube video, it should play in HTML5 format

3. plug in headphones and the video immediately hangs. Refreshing does not solve this problem. Firefox cannot play videos opening in new tabs either. Can only be solved if I restart the browser. However firefox stops responding after I click the restart button and I have to force quit firefox.

I tried doing so in the safe mode and still be able to reproduce this problem. Seems like a bug.

Hi

If you play video footage that is not online (a video on your computer) does this issue still occur?

Hi Seburo,

I just check this by playing an mp4 file that is not online. This problem still occurs. Once this problem is triggered either by an online video (e.g. youtube) or an offline video, Firefox refuses to play any video unless I restart it.
