How to prevent active tab from loading homepage after restoring session on startup?

I have firefox set to restore tabs on startup. It does do that. However, it also opens the homepage afterwards, To make it even more annoying, it loads the homepage in whatever tab was active. I can back out back to the previous page, but I would still like to disable this behavior.

I don't believe I have done anything that would affect this, but I can no longer reproduce this at all, despite reliably reproducing this multiple times before posting the question. :|
