Why does Firefox bring up my Word document in Excel? I've already assigned Firefox to bring up Word docs with Word.

more options

I have assigned within Firefox under the "Options" menu that by default all Word documents should be brought up with the Word application. However, each time I try to open a Word file from my Outlook 365 email Firefox calls up Excel instead. How can I get the Word docx file open with Word? (By the way this process works just fine with Internet Explorer, so that's why I believe it is a Firefox issue.)

Thanks for your help.

Did you also look at Windows O/S file associations to see what that was set at as well?

I've attached the default associations for docx type of files. Looks like Microsoft Word is the default for docx.

Did you check it's properties to also see if it was docx or xlsx. To be sure it's not a xlsx file you should download it and then see what it's properties are.

You can try to rename/remove handlers.json and delete mimeTypes.rdf if present in the Firefox profile folder with Firefox closed to reset all file actions.

If this didn't work then you can undo/reverse the change.

In the future, I suggest working this kind of problem backwards: look for anything on the Options page that is associated with Excel in case and test whether it is inadvertently hooking the DOCX documents.
