Having imported all my old emails from a gmail account to Thunderbird when I returned they were all gone. I have done this twice previously with other old email accounts and the emails have remained in their correct folders. Not sure why they would disappear on this occasion. How can I recover them?

Please explain in detail what you did.

What is the account type of the Gmail account - POP or IMAP?

If you properly followed the instructions in the article linked above all your mail would still be on the Gmail server's Inbox.

Wrt the disappearing messages see http://kb.mozillazine.org/Disappearing_mail for possible reasons.

Yes, but I have closed the gmail account so I now don’t have access to them
