I have downloaded Thunderbird and made it my default email provider. The problem is emails are not coming through to my inbox but are coming through in my Windows mail inbox without any problems. If i forward them from mail to myself they come straight through to Thunderbird. George

Hi Matt Thank you for the reply, I have tried everything I can but it will not work properly on my desktop. I asked for the Thunderbird app on my smart phone (it is a new one) and it gave me Blue mail. As I said at first if I get an email it won’t come into Thunderbird. If I forward it to myself or my wife’s account from my windows mail it goes straight in to Thunderbird without any problems. I have double checked and I am running imap servers and not pop3 in any of my accounts.

If the account is setup as POP on Windows Mail, it probably deletes mail from the server after download, making it inaccessible to TB. How is it set up in Mail and TB? If it's IMAP, the mail is synced between multiple email programs on multiple devices.

I have changed my mail to imap but i am still not getting all the emails through Thunderbird on the desktop. I have installed Thunderbird app on my phone and i get all the emails through there. It is driving me crazy. I have even tried removing the email accounts from Mail to see if that helps.

How did you change the account to IMAP? It's not sufficient to just change the server settings - the account has to be re-added as IMAP:

Also, if it was a gmail POP account, they don't allow downloading to multiple email programs unless 'recent mode' is enabled.

I uninstalled Thunderbird and reinstalled it. I made sure the accounts went in as imap accounts and not pop3. If i forward the emails from mail to Thunderbird they come straight through. Some are getting through, that is what i can't understand.

The account must be set up as IMAP on all devices, computers and phones included.

No it made no difference. I am going to uninstall the program and go back to Windows Mail. The forum is a great help but no help at all from Mozilla

You using a product produced by the Thunderbird community, Mozilla just has their name on it from when they "ceased" development in 2012.

I see lots of issues with what you have said here, starting with having Thunderbird on your phone. There is no Thunderbird for Android or Apple devices. So do we guess you have one of the exceedingly rare of now older Windows phones?

My personal guess, which was suggested by sfhowes is that your windows mail is still configured to POP and is deleting the mail. Have you deleted your accounts from it and ensured they go back as IMAP? My guess is not.

If yes perhaps you could post the account settings shown in the troubleshooting information on the help menu. Then someone can actually see what you have set instead of relying on whispers of what you think you have done.
