How to get rid of search engines in address bar?

Please see the attached the image.

I've got a separate search bar, yet the address bar pops up search engine suggestions that are navigable with the keyboard, too.

I'd really like to get rid of this - it seems to have popped up recently.

Thanks in advance.

Did you check the settings for the address bar in "Options/Preferences -> Search" ?

@cor-el: which part, specifically? That is the config area where you can set up the separate 'search bar' (the search entry field next to the url field) - so yeah, I've been there, but I'm utterly confused what specifically are you suggesting here.

You can set this pref to false on the about:config page to hide the search engine bar.

  • browser.urlbar.oneOffSearches = false

You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can accept the warning and click "I accept the risk!" to continue.

That one worked, thanks mate!

Sadly this solution has stopped working. The annoying search engines are back at the bottom of the urlbar, regardless of any config. (probably due to the latest update)

Anyone got a new idea here?

Thanks in advance!

Hello, ysu

I have your solution.

To remove a search engine, follow these steps:

Open the Search panel in Firefox Options using one of these methods: Click the magnifying glass MagnifyingGlass on the Search bar and then click Change Search Settings. Click the menu button Fx57Menu and select Options. In the Options tab that opens, click on Search in the left pane. Under One-click search engines, click on the search engine you want to remove.

Click the Remove button to take it off your list. Note: If a search engine is added back after you restart Firefox, it may be a Firefox extension. Those can be removed using the Add-ons manager (see Disable or remove Add-ons for details).

I hope these steps are useful to you.

Thank you

No need to remove search engines (there will always be one necessary), you can remove the checkmark on each of the search engines in about:preferences#search "One-Click Search Engines" to hide them from the location bar drop-down list.

Eh, guys, I don't want to remove search engines.  :)

Check the screenshot on the orig post, please: I've got a separate search box in the toolbar. That's where all the search engines reside. I just want them to go away from the url box, since that's not where I'm searching from.

Thanks for the bug-link; that's it, indeed. Hopefully it'll get fixed, it's rather annoying.
