how to delete a site from address bar? firefox 82.0.3, tip from FAQ - shift+delete doesn't work

Chosen solution

I think that this question is about one of the Top Sites. So you have to go to a New Tab page and move this site out of first 10-12 top sites. Then this site will disappear from the address bar list.

You can only remove history items via Shift+Delete. Items that have a star are bookmarks and items that have a pin icon are added from the Top Sites section on the Firefox Home page and you need to remove them from that page.

The location bar drop-down list can show history items, bookmarked pages, pages opened in tabs, top sites, and search suggestions. You can set what suggestions show when you enter an URL in the location/address bar bar.

  • Options/Preferences -> Privacy & Security
    Address Bar: When using the location bar, suggest:
    History
    Bookmarks
    Open tabs
    Top sites

TyDraniu, thanks, it worked. Point is that New Tab pages in my browser open in Blank Page and previous option to delete a website from address bar list by using Shift+Del was very useful, its sad that Mozilla refused this in updated FF.

Hi VA4, since Firefox 75, the Top Sites list has not been editable in the address bar drop-down; you've always needed to use the Firefox Home / new tab page to modify that list.

If you prefer not to have the Top Sites list shown when you click in the address bar, you can turn it off using a checkbox on the Options page, Privacy & Security panel, Address Bar section:

Typing a space in the bar will show the traditional history-based list.

I always use Blank page in new tab. I want Top Sites list shown in the address bar, but not all of them, some times I need to delete one or two from the list. So it's not convenient to me every time go to Settings for deleting one page.
