I have lot of problems correcting my maiin Gmail account and got frustrated and deleted passords and deleted gmail account and freshly tried to add again. I have enable Imap in my Gmail. I am entering user Id and password correctly. It accepts at stage1 and when I press done, I get checking password and then "Unable to log in at server. Probably wrong configuration, user name or password. I uninstalled nd reinstalled Thunderbird couple of times and same problem. Can anyone please help? Thank you

IMAP gmail will get set up using Authentication Method: OAuth2 It requires that cookies are enabled in order for this to work, so make sure cookies are enabled:

  • Select 'Menu app icon' > 'Options/Preferences'
  • In 'Options/Preferences' left Pane select 'Privacy & Security'
  • Select checkbox 'Accept cookies from sites'

Uninstalling and reinstalling Thunderbird rarely resolves issues as there is often nothing wrong with the program itself. Most issues are in the Profile and usually an incorrect setting.
