Reorder URL bar Suggestions

Is there any way to reorder the URL bar back to how it used to be in older versions of firefox?

It doesn't make any sense to prioritise google search over bookmarks.

Is it possible to go to the older style where search is at the bottom and only becomes the priority match when nothing else can be found.

"Search suggestions" are disabled. Autofill is also disabled. The problem also occurs on a fresh install inside a VM, so I doubt it has anything to do with userchrome/about:config

Thanks.

Does setting this pref to false on the about:config page work for you ?

  • browser.urlbar.showSearchSuggestionsFirst = false

You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. If you get the warning page, you can click the "Accept the Risk and Continue" button.

both showSearchSuggestionsFirst and services.sync.prefs.sync.browser.urlbar.showSearchSuggestionsFirst are already set to false.

The first line always shows what action is taken when you click the Go button or press the Enter key. You can disable searching via the location bar by setting keyword.enabled = false, that would give you a visit sugestion.

The location bar drop-down list can show history items, bookmarked pages, pages opened in tabs, top sites, and search suggestions. You can set what suggestions show when you enter an URL in the location/address bar bar.

  • Settings -> Privacy & Security
Address Bar: When using the location bar, suggest:
    History
    Bookmarks
    Open tabs
    Shortcuts
    Search engines

keyword.enabled = false makes the situation worse. Now I have a useless default match. Under Settings -> Privacy & Security Address Bar: I have only bookmarks ticked, which is what I want to match to.

I guess I should rephrase the issue. I should be able to type where I want to go in the least amount of keys. I should not have to hit the down arrow key then enter every time I want to go to a bookmarked site, especially when it is the most used option.

In older versions of firefox, before the "firefox suggest feature" came out, I could easily type the first two-three letters of the bookmark then press enter to go to the bookmark. Now it is the first couple of letters, down arrow to the bookmark then press enter. I could even type in the entire name of the bookmark, only to have it not appear as best match.

It seems ridiculous that my complex entry of "destiny" results in a google search of the entry rather than the obvious bookmarks its actually matched with.

I want search to be an option, it shouldn't however be the priority.

Hi,

As it seems there is no fix for this issue, what is the next step?
