Emails that I receive are marked "Spam" when they are not "Spam". How do I stop them from being identified as spam?

I tried to cover this question in the subject area. Many emails that I get and have responded to show up as "Spam" in the subject line when they are not spam. It also shows up in the return subject line. How do I get Thunderbird to recognize that which incoming emails are NOT spam?
