I am on a brand-new machine and having trouble setting up the Firefox browser.

When I click on a link it opens in a new window with all the tabs ready opened.

How do I open a tab without opening a new window?

Also, how do I set Yahoo.com as my default search engine?

Thank you for sharing your wisdom

Links normally don't open in a new window unless they are a popup (which won't show other tabs) or the Shift key is being held down while clicking. If you open a link from an external app when Firefox is not running, the window will include your last tab session if you have "Open previous windows and tabs" enabled in settings.

You can install the Yahoo Search Addon.

The Yahoo search is now my default search engine. The tab is still has a problem and is still opening a new window. How do I check if there is a popup causing this problem?

Does it still happen in Troubleshoot Mode?
