You can see which dictionary is selected if you right-click in a text area and open the Languages submenu. Also make sure that [[X]"Check Spelling" in the right-click context menu has a tick. You can also try to toggle the "Check Spelling" item off and on again.

I too cannot find spell check. There is no icon. When I right click in the text area I don't see anything that tells me about language or dictionary.

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes). See Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems and Troubleshoot issues with plugins like Flash or Java to fix common Firefox problems

If [X]"Check Spelling" in the right-click context menu of a textarea like "Type your message" on this forum has a tick then you should see a Languages item in that menu. If you have a dictionary installed then you should be able to select a dictionary.
