"Edit this bookmark" box gone!
My bookmarks are technically functioning - when I click on the star in the nav bar to bookmark a site, it does save/bookmark the site. However, when I click on the star a second time to edit the bookmark, the box just doesn't show up - period. I followed the instructions from this link: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Bookmarks_history_and_toolbar_buttons_not_working_-_Firefox to see if fixing my places.sqlite file would solve the problem, but it did not. I aslo tried deleting the .json bookmark backup files, and restoring my bookmarks from my own backup .html file, but the issue still isn't fixed. I know I can just go to "Organize Bookmarks..." to edit my bookmarks, but this is a pain. Please help! *TIA* :)

Sigh. I was afraid you'd say that. ;-) I knew that was a possibility, but I was really not relishing testing out each extension one by one. :-P But I did try opening Firefox in Safe Mode, and the edit bookmark box was working just dandy. So I put off testing the extensions till today, but I was in luck and it was the first one I tested! So goodbye to the Amazon button. :( Oh, well, just thrilled to have the problem fixed.
Thanks so much!!

Are you using the default theme? If not, try switching to the default.
Other than that, it is most likely an extension getting in the way. Do you still have the same problem if you start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode

Just ran into that today. Try disabling "McAfee Site Advisor" extension if you have it.
SOLVED!! Yippie!!!! (Firefox 4)
Was going CRAZY spending nearly entire day on this. Tried to disable ALL extensions, plugins, reinstall and creating a new profile and NOTHING helped. Then I was spending time to fix my IE9 from constantly crashing when I've discovered that enabling hardware acceleration is reason. Then I've recalled that I've enabled this on the Firefox too!!! and guess what? disabled the option, made the dialog appear again!. My laptop has Intel + nvidia Optimus . The nVidia drivers should kick-in for non-desktop applications and I've just recently upgraded them so that might be the root (of all evil) reason. Hope it will help you out there! Cheers! Btw, this on Firefox 4 , but I'll leave this comment here in case someone will bump into this topic like I did.

this is because you have created long name for bookmark folder or link in the bookmark menu
so remove or keep small name for bookmark folders
