After exiting from Firefox, when I try to run Firefox again a notice says "Firefox is already running" even though I have shut it down. I have to reboot the computer to run Firefox again. What I am doing wrong??

I am running Foxfire 3.6.9 and my os is ms-xp. However this problem has happened all versions so far. After exiting from Firefox ( closing all tabs) Firebox sometimes will not let me run the program again. I receiver the following: 'Firefox is already running, to open a new window, you must first close the existing Firefox process, or restart your system'. Since I have shut Firefox down there is no way to open it to shut it down again so I have to reboot the system. This is not consistent as it works find most of the time but is very frustrating when it does this. What going on??

I open the Task Manager (Ctrl-Alt-Del), find firefox.exe under Processes - Image Name. Do End Process to that.

my way slightly different but works: go -->task manager (control/alt/delete) -->processes column --> choose firefox.exe (click on name column--tis the 1st col to sort by name so you can find firefox.exe quickly. click on it so its highlighted. click onend process on the lower right corner
