Chosen solution

Installing Firefox does not remove IE8.

Why do you think that Firefox is not installed properly? Does it start up, and if it does do you get any error messages?

You can remove the Firefox setup file now that it has been installed.

With Firefox there is no need to reboot to complete installation. reboots are normally required if system files have been updated and Firefox does not update any system files.

You should not remove IE8, there are some sites that require IE8 in order to work. This could be due to them using non-standard coding or they rely upon ActiveX technology which only works in IE. There are far fewer site today that need IE to work compared to a few years ago.
