Suddenly, two greenish bands appeared at the top and bottom of the viewing screen. The top right of the screen has small branches from a tree with multiple pink flowers. This modification of the screen is distracting and irritating. How do I get rid of it?

Sounds like you have installed a Persona. Tools > Add-ons > Themes, click Default, click "Use theme". See: https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Using+themes+with+Firefox#Managing_themes_and_personas
