when i open a tab the start page is untitled, how do i set it so that when i open a new tab it has a specific start page? can the start page for a new tab be different than the start page for a new instance of the browser?

You can do that by using an add-on such as:

The first one lets you choose any site to be loaded on a new tab, the second one will set it to the home page.
