I am able to install other software, which I did as a test. Recently migrated from OS 10.4.11 on a Power PC eMac to OS 10.6.6 on an Intel iMac. This is the first Security Update since I migrated. I trashed the cert8.db file as recommended on site and I rebooted too, but still can't install the update. I have not uninstalled Firefox for fear of not being able to re-install. I have not yet messed with the Profile or otherwise worked in Terminal. Is there some handy preference to trash or what?

Chosen solution

  • Download a new copy of the Firefox program: http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html
  • Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean (re)install.
  • Install the new version that you have downloaded.

Your profile data is stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder, so you won't lose your bookmarks and other personal data.
