I am running Firefox 4 RC2 under Windows 7. If I open the program as a standard user, as I usually do, and go to the Help > About dialog, I always see an "Apply Update" button, even after I have supposedly applied an update previously. However, if I run the program as an administrator, the About dialog has no such button.

Why is this?

After closing Firefox, Remove the files in the updates and updates\0 folder under the following locations:

  • C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Mozilla\Firefox\Mozilla Firefox\updates
  • C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\updates\

Replace USERNAME with your Windows user name.

You might need to replace "Mozilla Firefox" with the Firefox installation directory name such as "Mozilla Firefox 4.0" if you installed to an alternate location.
