After I uninstalled 4.0 via control panel, when I download and install 3.6 from this (http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html), Firefox still somehow is running 4.0. How can I get back to 3.6?
I recently upgraded to Firefox 4.0, but for several reasons, I need to revert to 3.6. I uninstalled 4.0 via the control panel, and then downloaded 3.6 from this link: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html. After the install, I opened Firefox, and it is somehow running 4.0. I uninstalled and restarted several times, and I checked to make sure that the file it says it is installing is 3.6.16. What am I doing wrong? I really need to get back to 3.6...

Firefox shows as 3.6.16 in this forum. What makes you think that you are using Firefox 4.0 yet?
If your Toolbar buttons are in the wrong places, you can open the Firefox SafeMode and Reset toolbars and controls to return them to the 3.6 default location.

That was it... the buttons were still in the 4.0 placement, so I was confused. Thanks so much!
You're welcome.
