I've been using FF4 since the betas, but when the RC was installed, I started having trouble with downloads. If I click a file to download (e.g a PDF) and select "open with", the download takes several seconds to start, up to 10 seconds to complete (for a 150 kB PDF on a 12 Mbps connection), and then there's a 10-15 second delay before the file opens in Preview.

For whatever reason, this problem is solved by disabling the Downloads window.

  • Firefox -> Preferences
  • -> "General" tab
  • Uncheck "Show the Downloads window when downloading a file"

Okay, that seems to have worked temporarily, but doesn't fix the problem.
