I can not update Firefox automatically or manually.

I receive an automatic notice for an update. When I select "Update Firefox" a new window appears with a barber pole like stripe across the top and "Connecting to update server" on the bottom. The window never changes from this and there is no update. I can not get manual updates because the windows are not the same as in the instructions and there is no way to select for the update.

You are using Mac OS X 10.5. Firefox 4.0 requires an Intel chip, do you have an Intel chip on your Mac.

If you do: If you were getting permission errors on a Mac, download the latest Firefox version, then uninstall and reinstall Firefox. Do not remove your profile directories and files as they contain your settings, bookmarks, history, extensions, passwords, and cookies.

If you don't: Return to 3.6.17 -- http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
