My McAffee and Windows are up to date. I have run AdAware and MS Safety Scanner. The problem persists in Firefox (v. 7.0.1) and IE (v. 8). I am redirected to websites that display irrelevant links like ziphip or totallyshopping or shopautoweek.

Do a malware check with some malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.
You need to scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.
