The other night firefox started acting up. It looked like it was opening web pages vertically. I tried cleaning the cache, then I tried system restore, then I tried restoring it to it's default setting, then I uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox...now all it does is freeze when I open it.

Using System Restore can cause your Firefox installation to get corrupted because not all files are restored (only files in a white-list), so be cautious with using System Restore.

  • You may lose data in the profile folder like .js and .ini files.
  • You may need to (re)install software that was affected.

Delete the Firefox program folder before reinstalling to be sure that all files get updated.

You can find the latest Firefox release in all languages and for all Operating Systems here:

If the problem persists then try to create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

See "Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile":

There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.

If the new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.
