In re-enabling Java you suggest enabling the add-on (in my case Java Deployment Toolkit 6.0.340.4) Isn't this an old one?

With regard to your advice on 'Old versions of Java have been blocked - update and unblock Java' at http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/update-and-unblock-java

In the re-enabling Java section at list item 3, you state: Find the Java Platform or Java Runtime item and click Enable.

My question is: The item is listed in Add-ons Manager as Java Deployment Toolkit 6.0.340.4 6.0.340.4 (disabled) It's the numbers which worry me. Would I be enabling the latest version of Java, or an old one?

Chosen solution

Do you even need the Java Deployment Toolkit?

That "toolkit" is usually only needed for programmers doing Java development work.

please update the plugin to this patched version (you're appearing to run Version 6 Update 34 at the moment) : http://www.java.com/en/download/manual_v6.jsp

Many thanks the-edmeister. No, I don't develop any Java apps whatever.
