using windows 8, firefox (16.0.2) freezes for about 5 minutes on every page. Problem started two days ago. suspected Adobe flash, downloaded latest adobe update (Windows8-RT-KB2770041-x64.msu), fixed the problem for one windows 8 session. Have reset firefox, default home page is the only page that does not freeze for five minutes. Looking at task manager, firefox is sitting idle during the crash, it not using excessive memory. My firefox is submitting crash reports about every 5 minutes. Firefox is unusable in this state, I am resorting to using IE.

Looks like a problem with the Flash plugin or the plugin-container process.

You can check for problems caused by recent Flash updates and try these:

  • disable a possible RealPlayer Browser Record Plugin extension for Firefox and update the RealPlayer if installed
  • disable protected mode in Flash 11.3 and later
  • disable hardware acceleration in the Flash plugin
  • downgrade the Flash player to version 10.3 or 11.2
