When I start Firefox, I keep getting the Yahoo! Search Engine. I want to get Google as my new tab page. I have tried the "about:config" solution to no avail.

I have also tried uninstalling the Yahoo! toolbar, Tabs Mixer Plus, and almost every other solution. Yet, when I set my new tab page to open as Google, Firefox keeps giving me Yahoo! I find the Yahoo engine very impractical and would like to get rid of it asap.

This is what my new tab page is, which I do not want.

If you do not keep changes after a restart then see:

You can check for problems with preferences and try to rename or delete the prefs.js file and possible numbered prefs-##.js files and a possible user.js file to reset all prefs to the default values.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do not click the Reset button on the Safe mode start window or otherwise make changes.
