I set google to open in new tab; it opens but adress bar stays empty (no www.google.com)

i played with about:config and set google.hr to open in new tabs. great success. then i installed add-on: custom new tab 1.6.5 to switch cursor focus from address bar to search (so i can start typing right away). great success. but all that time my address bar is empty. when i click new tab google opens but address bar says: "Go to a website" instead of "http://www.google.hr/". this is just an estetic problem but kinda annoys me.

any help please?

That is normal behavior. With the exception of placeholder text (Go to a Website), the address bar will be empty regardless of the URL set in the browser.newtab.url preference.
