My back button won't take me back to the home page I use which is a file on my own computer.

I'm having the same problem as some other people have commented on in another thread. I use an html file on my computer as my home page and it loads whenever I open Firefox or a new tab. However when I'm navigating through websites on a tab and I want to use the back button to get back to my home page it never "sees" the home page in the history. All that happens is that either the back button is grayed out or it takes me back to whatever page I was viewing previous to my home page. Anyone else having this problem and any ideas?

And no, it has nothing to do with the "new tab" option, it all happens within each tab when navigating.

That's hard to explain, you have the problem in all of these scenarios:

  • New window (startup or Cmd+n): follow a link in the page and then try to go back
    • Firefox cannot go back to the home page
    • Same result every time or inconsistent results?
  • New tab (Cmd+t): follow a link in the page and then try to go back
    • It is a known issue that you cannot go back to the new tab page, either the built-in one, or one loaded in its place by an extension
  • Click the Home button on the toolbar: follow a link in the page and then try to go back
    • Firefox skips over the page and goes to the previous page (?!)
    • Same result every time or inconsistent results?

Could you test in Firefox's Safe Mode? That's a standard diagnostic tool to deactivate extensions and some advanced features of Firefox. More info: Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode.

If Firefox is not running: Hold down the option key when starting Firefox.

If Firefox is running: You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
  • Help menu > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

and OK the restart.

Both scenarios: A small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Refresh).

Any difference?
