I reinstalled system and lost my bookmarks were gone. I used recovery software to find my deleted files, and recovered a JSONLZ4 File. When I try to restore my bookmarks I get the message 'unable to process the backup file'. The file is 35kb in size, when using the restore tool it says '108 items', which I'm assuming is the amount of bookmarks I had, which implies that the firefox can see the data. Any one can help me to find my bookmark?

The files that were recovered, were there also backup files that were originally in the Firefox profile folder?

What is the name of the file?

The recovered file name may include the item count that is reported.

  • bookmarks-YYYY-MM-DD_<item-count>_<hash>.jsonlz4

Note that there is no guarantee that a recovered file is OK and not corrupted in case some clusters have been reused in the meantime and have overwritten the original data.

A compressed .jsonlz4 file can only be uncompressed if the file is not corrupted unlike the previously used uncompressed .json format.

You can try to decompress the file manually:

If that fails then you can't use this file to restore the bookmarks.

The file name is bookmarks-2015-09-23_163_-zty2DXs67lNFG-ivvj29A==.jsonlz4

I tried this way, after I run the script and select the file, and nothing happened. Is there any way I send the file to you and can you help me to find the bookmark?

That backup is already over a week old and has a total item count (bookmarks, folder, separators) of 163: 2015-09-23_163 If the script isn't able to decompress a compressed .jsonlz4 file then the file is likely corrupted beyond repair and is useless. If you can't recover any other file from the bookmarkbackups folder that is working with the script then your bookmarks can be considered lost.
