When I send an email, the recipient's inbox from column, and the message header, all show my incorrect name. When I send a copy to myself, it also shows incorrectly in my inbox from column. But my Sent folder does show the correct name in the from column, and in the message header. I don't know how to fix this. I've gone into account settings and the Default Identity is correct. And I've listed myself in my address book with the correct default name. I've even tried changing the name on my hotmail account online. But no matter what I do, the name my recipient sees is incorrect. (ie, it looks like the emails are coming from 'la', when the correct name is 'lros'). I don't know why 'la' is showing. I have another hotmail account I also use with Thunderbird and it works just fine. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I've listed myself in my address book with the correct ... name

Have the recipient also check the address book.

hi -- The recipient's address book, that I'm testing this with, has the correct name. (But of course someone new that I send an email to won't have that. Which is why I need to get the name corrected in the from line and the message header.)

And the incorrect name is also showing when I send an email to myself -- and my address book has the correct name.

Did you check your name in account settings?

yes -- my name in account settings shows correctly. I even tried setting up a 2nd identity with the correct name, but that didn't help either.

Are you using one or more Gmail accounts?

no my accounts are hotmail.

You are aware I hope that Hotmail identities simply do not work unless you use their web interface. Anything sent by SMTP is converted by Hotmail/Microsoft to the primary identity for the account. This is probably why your sent folder looks good, but nothing else does. Lesson. Get a mail provider that delivers. GMX is popular with the folk providing support around here. Especially if you do not want to deal with the "special cases" that always appears with Microsoft Hotmail under it's many relaunches and Gmail.

it may have something to do with hotmail. But I have 2 hotmail accounts I'm using on Thunderbird and 1 of them works fine, while the other has this problem. I'll have to keep checking to see if I can find any difference in how the other one is set up. Thanks all for the help.

Does each have its own corresponding smtp server setup? Or are you trying to share a single smtp server between the two hotmail accounts?

I think the most pertinent question is do the two SMTP sign ins use the same live identity (username).
