We have found the our Oracle forms user's experience in Citrix is much more consistent using FF, but we had concerns with continued support for Java plug-ins, and general browser maintenance in a Citrix environment. We were pleased to come across FF ESR (v45.x). We have this deployed in a test Citrix environment, and everything is working well - we are able to suppress all of the user prompts (security, upgrades, plug-in activation, etc). Our concern now is future support for ESR. There's not much information that I have found about this here: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1129966#answer-894498 . Before we make FF available for our Citrix Oracle EBS users, we need to understand a few things:

Future support for FF ESR Will there be fixes/patches provided for issues that don't require a full upgrade? Profile management: FF seems to have a lot of bloat in user profiles, which leads to increased load times for CItrix users. We need to remove "junk" to cut down on the load times, but are unsure about what the "junk" is.

A version on ESR channel gets security and allowed stability fixes, generally no new features is allowed. A version on ESR normally gets eight major updates inline with the major Releases.

Firefox 45.6.0esr did come out when 50.1.0 Release did instead of at 51.0 release so 45.9.0esr may be the last instead of 45.8.0esr.

Firefox 52.0 ESR will still support Plugins and also be the option for WinXP/Vista users since 53.0 will need Win7 or later.

Note the Win64 Firefox only has 64-bit Flash Player and Silverlight Plugins white listed to run. So you will need 32-bit Firefox on Windows to run other Plugins in Firefox sich as Java.

Plugin suppport has been dropped in Firefox 52 other than Flash.

The upcoming Firefox 52 ESR version will keep the plug-in support enabled until May 2018.
