Running 56.0.2 64bit. I have 'Open new windows in new tab' selected. However, when opening a new window, Firefox opens another instance of Firefox for the selection, not a new tab.

How can I fix this?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Appearance
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window

What are you clicking, exactly, or what menu choice are you using?

Ran Firefox in safe mode and the issue seems to have cleared. Now I have to figure out what happened because I have the default theme anyway and only two 'required' add-ons. Can't say which one it is right now because I'm in safe mode but I'll restore and try disabling them.

Thanks.
