I am not able to access CBS.com Live TV option using Firefox v56 on Xubuntu 16.04. In trying, I receive a message: can not find your location. However, I am able to get access to the CBS.com Live TV, via Google Chrome. It appears that CBS.com only supports Google Chrome features (i.e. communication protocols/security). Is there anyway to make Firefox v56 compatible with CBS.com. If not, will the next version of Firefox have the same capabilities as Google Chrome?

Make that you use a secure HTTPS connection because otherwise geolocation might not work.

I have tried using http, https and https via the extension smart https without any luck.

Also, I finally heard back from CBS support. CBS' response was:

"Dear Customer,

Thank you for your interest in CBS All Access & we do apologize for the delay.

Please go ahead & try utilizing another browser to see if you are receiving the same error message.

Regards,

CBS Support"

With that said, I am going to close out this support request with the understanding Firefox v56 is not compatible with CBS Live TV streaming service.

Thanks for all the help.

Thank you for your response. Changing permissions to allow my location to be transmitted does not work. I apologize for not stating that observation in my previous message.

It appears to me that there is a browser compatibility issue. I have tried alternative browsers (i.e. Google's Chrome & Vivaldi) to access CBS live TV. In the case of Vivaldi, I am able to transmit my location, but the live stream does not transmit. Only Google's Chrome works.

One final observation. In researching live streaming TV services (i.e. Youtube, Hulu, and DirectTV), only Microsoft's Edge, Google's Chrome and Apple's Safari are mentioned.

So does anyone know how to stream CBS live TV using Firefox v56?

Hi  !

Unfortunately I can't check this, as I would have to create an account.

The best I can do is to suggest to install this add-on (compatible with
Firefox 57+), if you're willing to settle for the latest CBS News videos ......

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/latest-cbs-news-videos/?src=cb-dl-users

You could also check to see if this extension might do the trick : https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/keentv/?src=search

Keeping my fingers crossed that somebody else will come up with the perfect solution for you  !

In streaming CBS News, as well as, other news channels I defer to Pluto TV. Pluto TV works with FireFox v56 without the need for extensions.

Checking 'Allow' for 'Access Your Location' under 'Persmissions' in Page Info didn't change anything  ?

Yes, I have read that meaningless reply you got from CBS - apparantly they can't be bothered trying to find a way to make their service work with the best browser on the planet ......
