it says connecting to the mail server, then we get an error saying the connection to mail.vianet.ca has timed out.

the last message we received through thunderbird was Jan 26/18. when we restarted the computer Jan 27/18, it ran an update for thunderbird . Since then we can send email but can't receive any through thunderbird

solved - out of curiosity I tried changing the connection security from STARTTLS (which it has always been) to the SSL/TLS option and it started receiving messages like normal again. Maybe this will help someone else

i have rebooted my computer, my modem, my wireless modem, verified my incoming and outgoing settings. (even though I can send fine). I can access new messages via webmail so my password is correct. Please I hope someone can help

solved - out of curiosity I tried changing the connection security from STARTTLS (which it has always been) to the SSL/TLS option and it started receiving messages like normal again. Maybe this will help someone else
