I belong to a motorcycle riding club and we are changing email from Yahoo to another. We have not decided which one just yet. I have used Thunderbird to access the 3 email addresses that we use on Yahoo. All email folders and contact lists have been downloaded to my laptop / Thunderbird program.

IF we delete the online Yahoo accounts.....will the old emails in Thunderbird still be there for reference and such?

OR will they disappear when the old Yahoo accounts are deleted???

We cannot afford to lose these emails. Thanks in advance.

If the account is POP you have a permanent local copy. If the account is IMAP than you do not.

For IMAP accounts I suggest you use the import export tools add-on and export all the mail to mbox files Then reimport them to local folders using the same tool. Once the mails are in a "local folders" folder they like the POP mail will not the linked to the account.

Due to the way Thunderbird interface works, any mail in "account folders" other than local folders" will disappear when the account is removed from Thunderbird (which you will have to do before you are driven mad by connection prompts.) Recovery is much easier if you just move the stuff before you remove the account.
