All my life I could enter a website from the address bar simply by typing the name, and then hitting Command Enter (or CTRL Enter on Windows) on the keyboard, instead of typing the full extension .com. Ever since the recent update, it is not possible anymore! If I hit CMND Enter, it just takes me to google search results, as if I just hit Enter. I don't know if it's the same on Windows. this is soooo annnoying to have to change decades of habits!

this problem applies to new websites – not the ones that the search bar suggest, because suggestions already include full addresses.

is there a new shortcuts I am missing, or is it a bug with the new version?

On Windows it works as before (ctrl-enter). The macOS keyboard shortcut to add "www" and ".com" to a URL is now also ctrl-enter instead of ⌘[cmd]-enter.

You can read about the decision process here: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=237027

It's 15 years old discussion. Someone could get used to.

The CMD key is there for a reason, it is very well located right under the thumbs, it is so natural to use it and this is why this key exists in the first place. It is used for almost every command in every OSX applications.

On the other hand the CTRL key has the worst location on the keyboard being located between "Fn" and "Alt" and we often have to look at the keyboard to find it. This is why this key is usually associated with CMD or Alt in more complex shortcuts.

I do not know how many URLs you type each day, but this is a major issue for me.

Please, at least add a parameter to configure it.

Hi benwade, TyDraniu's post was marked as the solution by the person who asked the original question (Soom). From your wording "Please, at least add a parameter...", I get the impression that you think you are contacting developers or Mozilla employees. You're not. The people that answer questions here are users just like you, volunteering their time.

If you want to leave feedback for Firefox developers, go to the Help menu and select Submit Feedback.

Because this thread is solved and more people might start using it for their own questions, I'm going to lock it.
