New firefox will not import the bookmarks from the old firefox data folder on my desktop. I would also like to get my Lockwise passwords back.

Hi Rowdy1212, are you trying it this way:

To restore an old automatic bookmark backup, open the Library window Ctrl+Shift+O (as in "Organizer"), click the Import and Backup menu, then click Restore, then click Choose File...

Firefox should open a file browsing window where you can point Firefox to the file you want to restore. Go to the Desktop, then into the Old Firefox Data folder, then drill down into the bookmarkbackups folder.

These files have their creation date and the number of items coded into the file names to help you in selecting the one you want to restore. Assuming there is one you want to restore to your currently running Firefox, select that and click Open.

Success? or Error message? or Nothing happens?

Hello, Thank you for the quick reply! That's exactly what i did. There was a drop down menu of different dates where the bookmark backups are. I tried to add the latest one but it wouldn't work for me. But i did manage to get them. I deleted places.sqlite and favicons.sqlite from my new profile folder and put the same files that were in the old firefox data folder into the new profile folder and i not only got my bookmarks back, but i also got my add-ons, and my passwords from Lockwise back. I wasn't aware that i was going to lose all of that info. Maybe i just didn't read closely enough to see that i would. Anyway all is back the way i had it. I have another question for you if you don't mind. When i start my computer from off. and i wait for everything to start, i will open firefox and all of the tabs that i had opened will show, but they take sometimes up to 3,4, maybe 5 minutes to load. I think i have read that it's because of add-ons. The only thing is, i wasn't away that all of my add-ons were gone and it was still having this issue. If you know of a fix i would be greatly appreciative. Thanks once again for the quick response!

Normally if you set Firefox to Restore Previous Session at startup (on the Settings page), it only loads the active tab in each window you restore. The tab content is loaded from the web content cache so there isn't even a request to the network (assuming the site doesn't block caching and you don't clear the cache). So it should be fairly quick.

If you set Firefox to restore all the tabs at startup (browser.sessionstore.restore_on_demand => false), that would take longer, but I have not tested that configuration for many years so I don't have a sense of how long it takes.

There are various session manager add-ons that you can use instead of or in addition to the built-in feature. Those probably work differently, but I never used them for restoring tabs at startup.

I don't know what has happened but I have lost my address search bar and also the multi tab navigation bar at the top of my Firefox page. I have also lost the "dash" "square"/"double square" and "X" tab controls that appeared at the top right of the Firefox screen. I use two screens and now cannot move an open tab from one screen to another.

In the write ups I have seen there should be a Firefox settings button (a gear wheel) now at top right of my screen - there is not.

I am finding this new layout worse than useless and totally non-intuitive. What on earth have you done?

Perhaps you are viewing a popup window, or your Firefox is in full screen view (try F11 to switch into/out of full screen view).

Whatever is happening, it doesn't seem to be related to the subject of this thread. Here's the form to start a new question: https://support.mozilla.org/questions/new/desktop/form
