I just had to both do a refresh and an update on my firefox browser, and after which, the + button to open a new tab is gone. For me and my work, this is infinitely more convenient than using ctrl + t, so I'm pretty desperate to get it back to the point that I will jump ship to Chrome if I can't.

It's not available to add on in the customization screen either, so I'm really concerned that firefox just removed it entirely with this update.

I'm not sure why they keep changing the template, but for me, this is a hill I'll die on. Please help.

Customize Firefox controls, buttons and toolbars {web link}

Type about:customizing<enter> in the address bar.

Note: about:customizing is no longer present in Firefox 47+ releases.

  • Press Alt or F10 to bring up the Menu Bar.Then View > Toolbars > Customize.
  • Right-click on a blank spot in the toolbar and select Customize.

In the new window, look for the icon. When you find it, hold down the left button on it, and move it to where you want it to be. You can move any of the icons you want from here, but; some icons are locked in place.

There is also a Restore Defaults button at the bottom right.
