  1. Sometimes I use the browser while the system is in dark mode.
  2. Then I switch system to light mode. FF recognizes it and switches to light mode accordingly.
  3. Then I use it in light mode for a little more.
  4. Then some time passes (maybe a few hours), I don't use FF during that time.
  5. Then, I tap on FF icon, the browser starts, but immediately switches back to dark mode, while the system is still in light mode.
  6. I have to close FF by swiping on it in task switcher, and then tap on the app again.
  7. FF now uses light/dark theme according to system.

Device: Motorola Edge 30 Neo with stock Android 14.

I am using Fennec: 124.1.0 (Build #1241020), 516df33ca9+ GV: 124.0.1-20240326023132 AS: 124.0

I discovered some details, and narrowed the problem down to make it more reproducible.

There are 2 cases:

Case #1: If I switch system dark mode while Firefox is in the foreground, FF switches to dark mode accordingly. But after this, if I switch to home screen and back to FF, FF switches the theme back wrongly (e.g. if I switched to dark, FF switches to light mode, and vice versa).

So for example, at this point, the system is in light mode but FF is in dark mode. The settings menu is also buggy after this, it shows dark text on dark background.

Case #2: Switching system dark mode while FF is in the background (e.g. on home screen): after this, if I switch back to FF, it correctly switches dark theme according to current state of system dark mode, and stays like this. There are no bugs to be observed in case #2.

Hi

When you mention Fennec - just to clarify, are you using the latest copy of Firefox for Android available from the Google Play store?

No, it's Fennec from F-Droid. But to make sure, I just tested on Firefox from Play Store, clean install, no extensions. I made 2 recordings.

It doesn't always happen for some reason. It's more random if I'm recording as it seems.

Can confirm. This happens randomly to me in Firefox for Android (from the Play Store). It's infuriating.

Using Samsung Galaxy S24, latest OneUI 6.1, August Security Patch.
