How to sync Thunderbird with iPhone without iCloud
I am considering migrating from Outlook 2016 to Thunderbird, but cannot see how to sync my contact and calendar to my iPhone. I've been using iTunes to sync, but Apple is killing that off so I'll have to move to Apple Devices (?). I've use Outlook since it was initially released, and was always happy with it, but it seems that it's time to move on, and T'bird seems like to most similar alternative. This sync process causes me to hesitate. Suggestions?

Which network provider are your contacts and calendar set up with on the phone? If they are set up in icloud, there's a way to sync them with TB. Similarly with Google Contacts and Calendar, and most other CalDAV and CardDAV providers, and even outlook.com with Exchange ActiveSync.
I am not using a cloud service. I have OL on my PC and sync my contacts and calendar via iTunes. Email syncs separately. I'm looking to migrate from OL to TBird, but want to understand how I can sync them first. I've always like OL as the most completely integrated Email/Contact/Calendar/Task Manager, but the time has come to change, I guess.
I've never seen examples of TB syncing with iTunes, and this old topic suggests it only works locally with Outlook. To sync with multiple independent devices, I think you have to employ a network calendar/contacts service.
