Is a there a version of FF for the BB Playbook ?
I would like to use FF on my Playbook. Before I download it, can anyone tell me if it will work (without me having to hack the PB) ?

There is no version of Firefox for Blackberry Playbook.
https://wiki.mozilla.org/Mobile/Platforms
Blackberry Due to the Java-based development system and inability to build C/C++ apps, the full Firefox browser will not be available on the Blackberry OS. However, a future version of Firefox Home may be available for Blackberry.

I am sory James you are %100 mistaken about the Blackberry Playbook.
and I quote
"What is the Native SDK?
The BlackBerry Native SDK for Tablet OS is a development toolset that allows you to harness the power of the BlackBerry PlayBook. Combining the speed and stability of the QNX Neutrino Real-Time Operating System with the Eclipse-based QNX Momentics development environment, the Native SDK is designed for developers who need full access to all that the PlayBook has to offer.
The Native SDK gives you a set of C and C++ APIs that expose all the tools needed to create powerful and dynamic applications. The capabilities include:
Native system APIs for the PlayBook’s screen, navigator, audio mixer, accelerometer, network, and even more A build environment that allows you to customize project settings, compiler, and deployment options A way to deploy your applications to real PlayBook devices or the included PlayBook simulator An integrated debugger that lets you examine every line of code as it’s being run Documentation, tutorials, and code samples"
pfolk, I am just quoting what Mozilla has posted on the page for mobile Firefox and based on what a few Mozilla devs who are involved with mobile Firefox would say even recently.
So if I am wrong then you are claiming Mozilla is wrong.
Sure it is possible to port some repackaged Android apps to work on a rooted Playbook. http://crackberry.com/playbook-android-player-repackaging-tools-now-available

James, you may be quoting mozilla, however you clearly didn't read what was posted. I suggest you take a moment and check out the link.
HOWEVER me saying you are wrong is not me saying mozilla is wrong.
Things change, when was the last time mozilla's page was updated? Maybe mozilla is not aware of any new changes that blackberry has been making recently.
The tablet OS is a new beast of its own, it is not built on the same platform as the blackberry phone OS
Could I be wrong....yes, and i very well could be...BUT the data im using if from many pages not just a wiki.

sounds like you are tellin 2 different storries.....and pointing people to root their device.
I did read what was posted as Mozilla page and Mozilla employees here have started they are not supporting Blackberry OS which includes the now steeply discounted Playbook due to low market demand. kbrosnan for example works for Mozilla.
I guess you may be thinking I and Mozilla is wrong due to saying Blackberry OS and not BlackBerry Tablet 0S when referring to the playbook.

You do need a rooted device if you want Android market especially. http://crackberry.com/tags/android-apps-blackberry.

1. blackberry OS and blackberry tablet OS are two different things. 2. you are wrong. not mozilla you. 3. price of the playbook has nothing to do with this conversation. 4. blackberry already released a tool to convert .apk files. 5. You are wrong point blank 100% not mozilla. how many times do i have to say this 6. cant be done, and wont be done are two different things
Nice to see your both passionate about your products... but take a frickin chill pill. We all want useful information - not whiny/negative "hater" comments like other forums.
Obviously, Blackberry Playbook owners would love to see their favorite browser running natively on the Playbook. My PB needs more firefox! :-)
Any real developers know the actual effort it would take to build it for the O/S and repackage it for the Blackberry App Store? - or perhaps we'll simply need to run the Andriod version...
i only want to drive the point that it is possible and because of C++ and java are both possible on the playbook. The issue i have is that it is possible, and i pointed to the newest info available.
I'm not sure if you guys are aware, but the Tablet version of the Firefox on Android is built using native C++, hence suggesting to have it built/port also using C++ on Playbook using the Playbook's Native SDK, so that the tweaks would just be down to the compatibility issues of the app for the playbook.
Hope that clears things up. :)

Blackberry released Cascades framework for the Blackberry 10 platform to have an easy port of the UI components:

Please confirm if the Firefox developers will be able to assess the tools for porting of the Native Firefox app. Thanks.
