How Do I Make The Quick Time Plug-in Store A Username and Password?

I am accessing a security camera that needs a username and password using Firefox 30.0 and the Quick Time 7.7.5 plug-in. The first time I accessed it, Firefox prompted me for the username and password and when I entered it I was asked if wanted to save it. I answered yes. After that a Quick Time pop-up window appeared and it too asked me for a (the same) user name and password but there was no option to save them Since then, when I open Firefox and try to view the camera output, the username and password is pre entered for Firefox but I still receive a Quick Time pop-up window that requires me to manually enter the username and password.

Is there anyway to make the Quick Time plug-in save the username and password or use the same information Firefox has available?

Here is the pop-up window I get.

I think that the web site sent that. It could be that what you want to see is private. Check with the site help page.

The camera is on my LAN and the there is only one user name and password to access it. In addition IE doesn't require entering the same username and password twice. That being said, I guess it is what it is. Thanks for trying.

Just a thought;

With the last Firefox upgrade, some plugins are no longer enabled until you enable it.

Open the Add-ons Manager. Press the <Alt> or <F10> key to bring up the tool bar. Followed by;

Windows; Tools Linux; Edit Mac; application name

Then Add-ons.

Hot key; <Control> (Mac: <Command>) <Shift> A)

On the left side of the page, select Plugins. At the top right is a link to check your plugins. When you get the report, tell us what it says.

To FredMcD

First of all I want to thank you for the effort you have put in but before you say you are welcome you will probably want to read all of this because you might curse me instead.

Just to be sure we are on the same page, the Quick Time Plug in does work but before it did I had to go to Tools/Add-ons /Plug-ins and change the default “Ask to Activate” to “Always Activate”. That made it work but it did not help the second request for user name and password. I think your last post was to make sure the plug-in was active and it is. What I was trying to eliminate was the need to enter the username and password a second time, not to make it work. If I misunderstood your post please let me know.

Now we get to the part where you might curse me. There is another piece of the puzzle that I did not mention because I thought this was strictly a plug-in problem since the plug-in was making the username and password request. Perhaps that is not the case. The interface to the camera requires AcitveX to work. You can see the camera output with RTSP but you cannot control the camera or perform any management tasks without ActiveX. As a result I went looking for a Firefox solution and came across Mozilla ActiveX Control which seemed like a solution. Based on that I installed MozillaContor1712.exe and it worked. That however might be part of the username password problem although I am not sure why.

If you are cursing me now, that is fine. I have been cursing Toshiba for some time for locking me into Windows and ActiveX, particularly since I have read that even MS is moving away from ActiveX. I have been hoping for almost two years that Toshiba would release new firmware for my two IK-WB16A cameras that would not require ActiveX with all the possible security problems it has but I am losing faith that will ever happen. They will probably just orphan the cameras and come out with a new product instead.

To Cor-el

I went to that URL and the only thing I saw that might pertain to my problem is the reference to "Plugin whitelist has been implemented". If I am reading that reference correctly, it is stating that plug-ins that are not white listed have to be manually set to "Always Acitvate" which I have done.

There was also a reference to "network.negotiate-auth.allow-insecure-ntlm-v1" being changed from false to that I really did not think applied but I tried toggling it anyway just to be sure. There was no effect.

If there is anything I should have noted, please let me know.

you might curse me instead No, not me. I can always learn something new.

They will probably just orphan the camera Well, that's the way they make money ( but they always say things like; better service, keeping up with the times, . . . . .)

Sorry I could not give you what you needed.
