How can I «sync» Firefox 30 on android 4.2.2
I had a «deprecated» sync account on an android phone (and on a linux lap as well). Then I bought a new android phone which asked me to create a new account. This is the moment I learned there was a new «method». So I googled how to do the transition, but FF simply keeps crashing every time I try to sync. I guess that it has to do with 4.2.2 (thl T11) because it crashes over and over regardless of the «account» (two of which I created and verified ex professo). I can smoothly sync with other computers.

I can't sync ether, I'm running Cyanagen 7 (Gb 2.3.7) with FF v30.0 I don't think its the Android version as I've had the same phone/pc/notebook combo for quite some time. I've received the 'Account Verified' page on FFandroid so there should be no problems........... ?
If we leave out the android version, then it must be a specific FF 30 bug... which isn't very helpful for the developers.
So far the only clues we have is 1) that it has to do with the new sync, and 2) that it is related to the android version (given that a verified account sync works on desktop)

Soooo,,,,,,is someone going to ask for a bug report? .... And where to send it.... Bug report and/or logcat?
Can we get some action on this?
>>EDIT<< I deleted FF, went to install it, I'm getting ERROR 408(timeout) on the DL from GPStore. Beta as well. Hard reset doesn't help. Annnndddd now it connects and doesn't time out,,,10+ min.....(?) Same with FF beta........ Went to the GPStore, timed out the install from there.... Wipe Cache/Dalvik, Fix Permissions.........No Love Here.....ERROR 408
I don't experience these problems. I can reinstall FF as well as FF beta from playstore. I can too link/unlink device to one account or another. FF tells me when I type the wrong pass. It just crashes as soon as everything is ready.
I don't know where to report the bug, or what log files to look for
Did you follow these instructions? https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-to-update-to-the-new-firefox-sync
Yes, I tried the steps provided there. Here it is what I've done so far, chronologically:
- Install FF on new android phone (4.2.2)
- Log in with previous account. I got confused because it urges to create an account —without a warning—, instead of using an old one, which is what normally comes. So, I created a new account with the same email. I noticed my mistake after I verified.
- As it began to crash, I googled for a solution
- I found the one stated in the previous post, and many others from the mozzilla support forum
- So, I unlinked all my devices, deleted the account and restarted the FF desktop app
- As it kept crashing on the phone (no fuzz on desktop), I reinstalled it. Tried as well FF beta
- Unlinked again (many times) the account. No change in behavior
- Tried to connect not via FF but android phone settings. No luck either
- Deleted FF and clean reinstalled
- Created another account with another email (to check if it was some corruption on my first synced account). Verified new account. Crashed again as soon as it begins to sync
- Unlinked device. Clean reinstalled FF. Created a third account, verified. Crash

Bin there done that .... Still no love here......
Hi ludenticus:
I'll get a developer to look at this. I don't think it has anything to do with 4.2.2 and FF30 and FF29 because I've synced sucessfully with 4.2.2. but you never know :-)
Is this the phone you are using? http://www.prcfrog.com/thl-t11-android-4-2-3g-mtk6592-octa-core-2gb-ram-phone-5-0-inch-16gb-rom-black.html
Hi Michael T:
Please create a new question since you probably have a different problem. and it's easier to solve two different people's problems in two different questions.
Cheers!

Hi Roland.
I'd like to thank your answer and helpful disposition. Yes, that's the phone I'm trying to sync. I've just deleted and reinstalled FF 30 on my old phone (4.2.1) and I was able to sync with my original account with no issues. Then I noticed something strange: on this phone I can select what to sync, whereas on the new one I can't.
I ended up installing a custom ROM and now FF works as it is intented to.
Regarding selecting what to sync: you can only change those after the first sync, unless you opted to do so while *creating* your account. That those are greyed out means that this device hasn't synced yet (usually because you haven't verified your email).
"So, I created a new account with the same email. I noticed my mistake after I verified. " -- either it's not the same email, or your old account was a Firefox Sync account, not one of the new Firefox Accounts.
"FF simply keeps crashing every time I try to sync" -- adb log, please. Ideally file a bug.
Hi ludenticus
[i blew it because i didn't get a developer to look at your question sooner, but better late than never rnewman who is a developer replied!]
Anyhow, glad you got it working. Yay!
1. If the problem re-occurs with sync then here's how (3 year old blog post but still valid!) to get an ADB log (warning: somewhat technical)
http://philikon.wordpress.com/2011/06/13/how-to-file-a-good-sync-bug/
2. If you get crashes in the future , please provide the crashid, here's how.
i) surf to: about:crashes
Post the crashid (it starts with 'bp-')
Cheers!

That blog post link should be

-- Philipp's one is for desktop Sync.
Thanks to rnewman as well as to Roland for their time. I don't have this problem any longer, because I installed a custom ROM to the thl T11 from needrom.com. I guess it was a bug on the official brand release, but I can't provide now any further info since I'm not running it any more. I can say, however, that it was not related to the sync process or the sync account, given that I could link my phone smoothly with FF under the new ROM (cyanogenmod).
