Can't sync Google Calendar even with Lightning

I've installed the Lightning extension on my Thunderbird (24.5.0 on Ubuntu 13.10) but it doesn't sync calendar events. Please tell me how to do this (I only want to get reminders).

I've read the guide that redirects to Google Calendar. I also took the Private Access URL. But here are my problems:

1. I don't want a static or online calendar only. If I give the private access link of the XML, I guess only a static calendar will be shown and changes won't be reflected.

2. I don't know how exactly to use that URL!

Not sure what you mean exactly with 'sync Google Calendar with Lightning'. You'd in fact need to set up a network calendar, and your calendar is on the Google server. You cannot sync a local calendar with a Google Calendar. There are different ways to access a Google Calendar via Lightning:

Which method did you try? The 'Provider' method is possibly easier, as you just need to enter your credentials with the latest 'Provider' version. See also https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/using-lightning-google-calendar

I used the Provider and also, I used a Network account (sorry for being confusing). Still, no sync.

As said before, you'd need to create a network calendar. Please explain in detail what exactly you did and which instructions you followed.

File>New>Calendar>On the Network>Google

Then I authenticated my account.

Nothing has been synchronised as of now.

Some concerned extensions I've installed:

  • EDS Calendar Integration 0.4.1
  • GNOME Integration 0.4.3
  • Provider for Google Calendar 1.0.3
  • Lightning 2.6.6

When I check the Activity Manager, it shows Synchronizing Calendar xyz@xyz.com's list. There's nothing in my Google Tasks, yet it keeps synchronizing forever. When I try to manually sync by clicking on the big Synchronise button on top-left, nothing happens (but looks like the calendar is refreshed instantaneously, as if there was nothing to sync).

Are there any events in your Google Calendar yet? In other words, is there something to sync in the first place?

more options

Of course! Dude Google Calendar is my life! My smartphone and tablet already synchronise it (Android build-in app) and I can't live a single day without it! Sort of.

Then I authenticated my account.

As far as I remember you'd still have to choose a calendar from your account.

If you didn't do this, you missed one step. If you did do this, why didn't you mention it?

There's nothing in my Google Tasks

I was talking about events, not tasks.

Yeah I also chose which calendars to sync. There were three and I picked the one I needed. I forgot to mention because I didn't think it was important. What's more important is the fact that I accomplished all steps.

"there's nothing in my tasks" wasn't important but I included that because I thought it just might be important to know what's happening in Activity.

was your gmail originally set up as a googlemail.com address?

more options

No it wasn't.

Just to confirm, are you trying to sync events or tasks?

more options

Events, for God's sake.

I see that none of you have any solution to this... It's fine, I will make do without synchronising TB. I can still work with the online Google UI.
