I tried to open Tor (using Firefox) and it hung, placing a file onto my desktop labelled "old firefox data" . I had to force quit Tor then tried to open Firefox and it did the same... now I get a "can't find profile" message when trying to open Firefox.

I have no idea what is going on here... but I believe the profile files are sitting on my desktop. It has four sub-folders and the one for Tor has three sub folders.

I can't open Firefox, but I got Tor to go but without its normal profile.... I had to go through the couple of steps one does when first starting Tor... so that profile is gone, too... sitting on the desktop.

I REALLY NEED to get back my old profile as I have to have the Firefox bookmarks back as they are the basis of a lot of research going on.

Oh, and I'm on an older macbook pro with the latest MAC OS upgrades... so it isn't so fast anymore.

Also, I was running Excel and was shutting down Excel while trying to boot up Tor, if that is relevant.

Thanks and cheers, Doug

Hi, it sounds as if a Refresh occurred (Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings) without a new Profile being created. So please see if any of this helps -

If your question is resolved by this or another answer, please take a minute to let us know. Thank you!

Thank you for your suggestion... but did you not red the point where I said the Firefox browser does not open because I get a message saying that it has no profile? I try to open my normal Firefox browser, I get the message "Your Firefox profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible." and it goes no further. I can't access anything in Firefox as it won't open.

If I have the profile files sitting on my desktop, where in the MAC configuration should I put them and under what file name so that the browser can recognise and access it, please?

Then, how do I do that for Tor... as it uses the Firefox browser for its intertface to the internet.

Thanks, Doug

Wait... I found the point in the fiels where the extracted profile files go and moved the old files into that space for both Tor and regular Firefox.

Thanks... the instructions on the refresh page in Tor was able to do that for me... now I know how to get in there. Thanks.
