How do I prevent location-based redirects?

I use a VPN. When I type go to a .com site, half the time I get redirected to its European counterpart. For example, going to google.com lands me at google.nl. I figured this was based on geolocation, so I toggled "geo.enabled" to false, but no change. Is there some other way to prevent these redirects?

Sites primarily rely on your reported IP address (the address of the current VPN exit node) to geolocate you. You can't fake that. Can you configure your VPN to use a U.S. exit node?

Firefox has an accessibility feature to stop certain kinds of redirects. It was designed to aid users of screen reader to avoid losing context, and not as a way to defeat customization of websites. It can have odd side effects of stranding you on a blank page or breaking off-site payment flow. But if you want to try it, see:
