Why is Thunderbird always making new mail folders?

Every few days Thunderbird adds 1-4 new mail folders. They have the same name as folders I have created but with names like "bonnie (DESKTOP-C0A61V9's conflicted copy 2016-11-17).mbx" - the original folder I made just named "bonnie". Sometimes I can delete these unwanted folders, but in many cases I can't. Of the 20 or so original folders, there are about 5-6 that keep spontaneously creating these DESKTOP conflicted copy folders.

The wording of the filenames (compare with https://www.dropbox.com/en/help/36) sounds like your Thunderbird profile folder is being shared by Dropbox, which probably isn't a good idea. So it's Dropbox making the duplicate folders, not Thunderbird.
