Download status shows 'failed' after 10 minutes of inactivity. Can this be shortened? Why isn't "retry download" automatic?

During a very looonnnng download, it sometimes halts with no activity showing in the status display. After about ten minutes, the display shows "failed", and the option to "Retry Download" appears. Can the delay be shortened to something more reasonable. Can the "retry" be automatic, or have an option to set to automatic? It is a pain to sit around for ten minutes before being able to continue the download...

The cause could be many things. The website, your connection, protection programs, Firefox burped (pardon me) . . . .

This download manager works separately from the browser. The browser tells it what to download, and off it goes.
