What can I do to recover sub-folders and their messages from a local folder than suddenly deleted them?
An important local folder suddenly appeared with an altered name, with a few letters added to the end. When I renamed the folder, back to its original name, messages within sub-folders no longer appeared, and then the sub-folders themselves stopped. Using the search function, it would appear that the sub-folders and their respective message still exist, but they're no long visible in the original folder. What can be done to recover these essential sub-folders and their messages? Thanks.

suddenly appeared with what additional letters after it's name?
I didn't make a note of it. What appeared was the folder name "Planning" with 4-5 letters/numbers added to the end, that just appeared to be random. After I corrected the name was when messages within sub-files no longer appeared, and then the sub-files themselves disappeared. Sub-files still appear to exist when I do a search function, and I'm able to access at least some messages that way, but I have no idea where these sub-files were moved to (they don't appear anywhere in the directory). This sort of problem has happened before, as well as corrupting/destroying individual messages, especially when moving to thematic folders for storage. This is really awful, as one never knows when Thunderbird will destroy and/or invoke chaos in one's e-mail correspondence.
